Collaboration
School Librarian's Curriculum Chart - I created this chart to develop a broad view of what all of the high schools teachers are covering in their grade level and elective classes. I would love to collaborate on a lesson and/or a unit with you and will happily begin to pull resources and map out ideas and project guidelines.
Collaboration Form - Here is an example of a form that you can fill out for me before we begin a collaborative unit (created by McDaniel School Library Media graduate students).
The I-Search Paper - This document is a collection of lessons plans for a research unit on current celebrities and the charities they support. I collaborated on this unit with an English teacher who at the time was teaching a directed-level English class. I will gladly work with you to create a similar project (this unit was adopted by the English curriculum office as a writing-to-inform unit for all 10th Grade English teachers in the county).
21st Century Learners
We educators are fully entrenched in the 21st century, and our students are as well. It is time to make sure that our instruction is designed to meet the needs of these 21st century learners. Did you know that a student born in 2000 is now in fifth grade!? Four years from now, they are entering our high school classrooms.
Please visit the American Association of School Librarians website to understand how we as educators can modify and amend our current instruction to build a 21st century inquiry-learning base for our students, the future engineers, doctors, teachers, politicians, and workers of our country!
21st Century Learners must learn how to use skills, resources, and tools to
1. Inquire, think critically, and gain knowledge.
2. Draw conclusions, make informed decisions, apply knowledge to new situations, and create new knowledge.
3. Share knowledge and participate ethically and productively as members of our democratic society.
4. Pursue personal and aesthetic growth.
